Getting over the struggle, how habits keep you going!
So when I re-launched the site last week, I was full of motivation and I steam-rolled through making the new site in a day and made two blog posts. And as the saying goes, what goes up must come down… I had a massive crash, I caught a bug, had some really bad days of headaches, and lost all optimism for life in general! (Dramatic, I know, one of my not-so-good habits 😂).
However! I managed to keep some of my habits going, engaging my brain through the pain, and this has pulled me through the other side, ready to keep smashing my goals!
Making the bed - The most ‘can not fail’ habit that nobody had the excuse not to do sets even the worst of days off to a good start.
Reading Every Day - I NEVER used to read, I’d listen to audiobooks in the car (still do), and my time was taken up by mind-numbing TV (still enjoy TV in moderation). But reading helps me so much, it calms me down, helps me practice speaking (blog/vlog coming soon), and depending on the book, acts as a form of meditation for me. This week I powered through, just a few pages or a chapter per day.
10,000 Steps Daily - I was failing badly, and several takeaways may have been consumed 👀, and this habit stopped me from shutting down completely. Coupled with the Apple Fitness rings, I couldn’t bear the thought of missing ANOTHER day in May that wasn’t complete. The walks to complete this goal (some just up and down the garden) helped with the headaches, kept me motivated, and on seeing the counter tick over 10,000, I got that hit of hormones that helped me keep going for the rest of the day.
What I think also helps is the gamification and embarrassment of not completing my streaks /rings. You should be doing it for yourself and I am, but putting failsafes into place doesn’t hurt. I enjoy knowing that I haven’t had an energy drink 442 days (and counting), I enjoy seeing my workouts and rings being completed on my Apple Watch when friends / family members haven’t… There is nothing wrong with competition as long as you’re not rubbing it in other people’s faces. If you can get people on board, challenge each other or find a team sport to cheer each other on! We don’t have to do this alone and even if you’re competing in the shadows you’re setting yourself a goal.
It’s ok to disappear for as long as you need to focus, keep an eye on your competition from afar and come back stronger, letting the results do the speaking.
Stay classy!
ENGAGE THE BRAIN THROUGH THE PAIN!!!
Do you have someone that you secretly compete with?
Yes, they have no idea! 😂
No, I don't compete with anyone! 😅
No need, I openly compete with everyone! 😏
